GeneralSummary/Overview:

The ReferralCoordinator is responsible for processing referrals and schedulingappointments.

Essential Functions:

  • Greetpatients in a calm and helpful manner using excellent customer service skills.
  • Emptythe Referral line daily.
  • Processall prior authorizations.
  • Coordinatereferrals contacting internal or external specialty departments to scheduleappointments.
  • Faxall pertinent information to all external physicians for appointments that arescheduled.
  • Completeany rescheduling of physicians schedules as needed.
  • Completecall backs to patients not scheduled when exiting.
  • Answertelephones promptly and courteously, using the Pentucket standard 3-partgreeting.
  • Flagclinical staff with appointments and testing that has been scheduled.
  • Enterall appointments into MTV in Medic with referral numbers and priorauthorization numbers.
  • Maintainpatient confidentiality.
  • Otherduties as assigned.



  • Qualifications
    Preferred Qualifications:

    A minimum of a high school diploma or GED.

    A minimum of 1 year of customer service experience

    Must have previous experience in a medical office environment.

    Experience handling referrals preferred.

    Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

    Must have good working knowledge of computers.

    Must have excellent communication skills.

    Must have the ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.

    Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

    Must be very detail orientated and have excellent organizational skills. Must have the ability to multi-task.

    Must have excellent customer service skills.

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk and hear. Requires sitting and standing associated with normal office environment. Manual dexterity for using a computer keyboard and calculator.

    Environmental Working Conditions:

    Work is performed in a fast-paced office environment. There is constant contact with the public, clinic and office support staff. Work may be stressful at times because of high volume.
