The Region Landfill Gas Program Manager for GFL is responsible for providing expertise and supervision for all aspects of landfill gas systems. Responsibilities will include engineering design, system operation, maintenance, planning, permitting, and compliance for the landfill gas systems. The position will oversee the landfill gas technicians, consultants supporting each gas system. . The Region Landfill Gas Program Manager will be actively involved in current landfill gas development projects as well as working closely with the business to develop future gas to energy contracts. Additional responsibilities include oversight and internal reporting of environmental compliance monitoring activities associated with the landfill's regulatory permits and pertinent federal, state, and local regulations related to air and landfill gas. From time to time the position will be responsible for training technicians and engineering support on GFL policies and best practices for landfill gas systems.
The role is diverse in that in addition to technical engineering aspects, the role requires knowledge and active participation in multiple functions of business including but not limited to project planning and budgeting, accounting, contract negotiation, legal and regulatory interaction, general operations, and maintenance.

A Day in the Life of a Regional Landfill Gas Program Manager: • Provide internal technical expertise related to the development, operation and maintenance of landfill gas infrastructure including but not limited to gas collections systems, landfill gas monitoring, gas control systems and gas to energy systems.
• Coordinate and oversee the GFL landfill gas management program for the South Region. Including the region landfill gas data base.
• Plans and manages construction projects for landfill gas infrastructure.
• Maintain, update, and ensure compliance as necessary of internal best practise standards as related landfill gas infrastructure construction.
• Support development of landfill capital planning and ensures financial responsibility for landfill gas infrastructure as well as gas system operation and maintenance.
• Provides support for the completion of permit applications and designs, including regulatory interface, site expansion, modification, or changes to the operating plan application, as they relate to landfill gas management.
• Technical engineering review with focus on improvements to safety, design, constructability, quality, regulatory compliance, and monetary savings
• Coordinates completion of monthly and other status reports. Analyses data and provide feedback as necessary.
• Supervises, coaches, and develops post collection management team relative to landfill gas subject matter.
• Technical support and participation in discussion with applicable regulatory agencies
• May require attendance of regulatory and association sponsored informational and policy meetings.
• Can be involved in ongoing public relations and due diligence activities through communication with corporate office, regulatory agency representatives, third party consultants and investors.
• Provide practical solutions to engineering and process issues which conform to applicable North American Standards.
• Maintain knowledge in, and practise of, high standards and landfill gas engineering and operating methods.
• Drive technology advancements within area of expertise
• Provide relief support for key roles in the post collection team as required.
• Oversee compliance and corrective actions as related to control of odor at post collection facilities
• Complete special assignments/tasks as required by Area Landfill Director
• Promote and manage the company's vision with respect to HSE standards, behaviours and performance.
• Promote a safety-first culture that supports continuous HSE improvement and actively engages workers through company-wide programs.
• Ensure appropriate resources are made available to develop, document, implement, maintain and comply with HSE systems and programs.
• Ensure duty of care obligations are met and that your conduct and that of others in the workplace always occurs in a safe manner.
• Determine risk management compliance and internal controls necessary to ensure strategic, operations, legal and HSE risks are effectively managed and minimised.
• Support training systems to assist workers in obtaining the appropriate skills and experience to perform their roles safely and competently.
• Adhere to the company's policies and procedures and ensure those within your area of control do always likewise.
Requirements:• College degree or equivalent experience in landfill gas management
• Progressive experience in the design, installation, diagnostics of landfill gas control systems and landfill construction and operation
• Have a general understanding of the safe application and best practice for the use of earthwork and HDPE pipe welding for landfill gas infrastructure construction.

• Knowledge of EPA, state EPA, OSHA, and other related state and federal regulations
• Ability to effectively manage multiple projects
• Approach and complete work in a meticulous, thorough and timely manner

Working Conditions:• Ability to work in extreme environmental conditions including cold / hot weather, dust
