The Department of Pathology is seeking a Research Assistant to perform research activities based upon protocols developed by other research staff or principal investigator of the research project. Read and review articles as directed. As individual skills develop, analyze literature to develop hypotheses for discussion with other researchers or principal investigator.

Duties to include:

  • Routine laboratory reagent preparation and storage; equipment and supplies acquisition and maintenance
  • Routine specimen processing, procurement, and storage for a biorepository
  • Performs experiments: immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, Western blotting, special stains
  • Assists in communication of experimental work and refining of new techniques
  • Administrative duties and other tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a biological science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in designing experiments, gathering and recording data, and presenting of results
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with cryosectioning and microtomy
  • Experience with immunostaining techniques, including immunohistochemistry, immunoflourescence, and special stains
  • Experience with tissue processing and embedding

Highly Desirable Qualifications:
  • Prior experience with human neuroanatomy
  • Prior experience with clinical/patient-oriented research
  • Prior experience with maintaining an inventory of biological specimens
