Nature of Work The Dabertrand Laboratory in the Department of Anesthesiology investigates the control of cerebral blood flow by ion channels and calcium signals in the pericytes, endothelial cells, and smooth muscle cells that constitute the intracerebral microcirculation. We focus on the interaction between neural activity and the microvasculature in different brain regions, in physiological and small vessels disease conditions.
We are seeking an experienced Research Associate who will conduct/assist with experiments. Experiments include, but are not limited to, isolated and pressurized arterioles from mouse brain, patch-clamp electrophysiology on isolated cells,
in vivo two-photon microscopy, gene expression analysis (qPCR, IHC…). Responsibilities include solutions and samples preparation, operation and general maintenance of instruments, as well as data collection and analysis. This is an opportunity to learn cutting-edge technologies and to work with investigators on high orbit projects.
Professional Field Brain Research
Examples of Work Performed The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI).
- Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects.
- Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research.
- Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results.
- Perform pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical test process and evaluate results produced.
- Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions.
- Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information.
- Assist in the redaction of manuscripts and grant applications.
Supervision Received The Research Associate reports to the PI, Dr. Dabertrand.
Supervision Exercised The Research Associate will not supervise other employees.
Salary and Benefits The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $56,000 - $64,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. - PhD or equivalent in biology, molecular biology, neuroscience, cardiovascular science, or related field.
- 3 years or more of research.
- Experience with mouse handling.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in the process of publicizing research. Microsurgery level/fine motor skills is a plus. Experience in at least one of the following areas: molecular biology (RNA extraction, qPCR…), electrophysiology (Patch-clap, EPSP recording), and fluorescence imaging (confocal, two-photon…).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong organizational skills. Will bring cutting-edge technologies to work with investigators on high orbit projects. Ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
