BASIC FUNCTION

The Short Lab in the Division of Hematology, Oncology, and Blood & Marrow Transplantation is seeking a highly motivated and experienced research personnel to provide support for research programs in the field of colorectal cancer and intestinal disease. Key responsibilities include conducting basic and translational research activities in cell, animal, and organoid models. Other areas of responsibilities will include contributing to manuscripts/publications, administrative and project management, and supervision and training of laboratory staff in collaboration with the PI.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Research:

  • Perform research activities in intestinal disease biology, such as molecular biology, cell and organoid culture, and mouse modeling.
  • Research literature as requested.
  • Adapt and perform protocols from the literature.
  • Critically review literature for the purposes of furthering the research and developing new hypotheses in conjunction with the principal investigator.
Experiments, Investigations, Evaluations:
  • Perform basic and complex procedures and techniques as outlined in research protocol, assure fidelity to protocols, may propose modifications to protocols and/or assist in the design of experiment protocols.
  • Assist in the development of protocols and methodology.
  • Develop hypotheses and implement research plan in collaboration with PI.
  • Preparation and submission of manuscripts, abstracts, and figures as appropriate.
Administrative and Project Management:
  • Oversee many of the day-to-day administrative functions in collaboration with the PI, including but not limited to writing and amending IACUC/IRB protocols, ordering and inventory of reagents and supplies, ensuring compliance for safety and regulatory programs, and managing staff and trainee activities.
Supervision/Staffing:
  • Provide ongoing training on basic and new lab techniques and protocols for employees.
  • Provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling to track progress and assure outcomes are achieved.
The department intends to hire for one position as either a Research Associate, requisition 24002688, or Research Specialist, requisition 24002689, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please apply to the specific position for which you which to be considered or both.

EDUCATION REQUIRED

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2 years of related experience is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Skill in molecular/cell biology research techniques is required.
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture is required.
  • Willingness to work with animal models of human disease is required.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
DERSIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with mouse colony setup and maintenance is highly desirable.
  • Experience with organoid and 3D cultures is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in protein isolation and western blotting, RNA extraction and analysis, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, and/or flow cytometry is highly desirable.
