We house approximately 13,000 predominately first year students in 14 traditional residence halls and 6 unfurnished apartment communities. The mission of Residential Libraries is to provide their residents with library collections, programs, and services that support their recreational, cultural, and academic needs. There have been libraries in the residential halls at IU since 1940. We are proud to continue that legacy through the daily operation of 10 libraries on campus providing DVDs, equipment, games, and books to the residents.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision provides support to multiple libraries and outreach program.
  • Ordering library material, office, and programming supplies.
  • Processing of library material and distribution to libraries.
  • Submits hospitality requests and reconciles procurement card receipts.
  • Creates and maintains library records and compiles library statistics.
  • Coordinates the collection of and processes HR and payroll paperwork.
  • Assists manager with training and creating training material. Assists manager with creating and writing policies and procedures, evaluations, and library inspections.
  • Oversees and provides support to Library supervisors and supervises part-time hourly office assistant.
  • Process movie licensing requests.
  • Oversees departmental email accounts.
  • Posts charges and credits for overdue and damaged library material.
General Responsibilities
  • Handles and monitors library materials, including re-shelving, processing new material, restocking, and ensuring that all materials can be located quickly and easily. Evaluates condition of library materials and may perform repair and preservation of library materials, as needed.
  • Assists faculty, students, and other patrons by answering phones and handling library-related issues, resolving non-routine problems related to library activities.
  • Monitors library systems. Creates and updates basic records, maintains automated records, reviewing for completeness and accuracy.
  • Collects and collates data, compiles statistics, uses compiled information to prepare unit reports
  • May assist with cataloging new items, performing audits of outstanding items, and/or inter-library loan materials processing.
  • May oversee library department desk and provide training and direction for students' employees working the front desk.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • High school diploma or GED
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years library or office experience

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This role frequently requires the ability to move objects weighing 10-30 pounds.The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
