Position Overview:

The Risk Analyst Position is an entry level position in the Middle Office. The Risk Analyst is primarily responsible for assisting the Middle Office group in maintaining the integrity of the trading portfolio by having a basic understanding of the transactions and the underlying risk limits. The Risk Analyst will work closely on a daily basis with other Risk Analysts, Senior Risk Analysts, Physical and Financial Marketers/Traders, Schedulers and Accounting personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor daily risk reporting for potential risk metric violations
    • Review transaction entries at end of day for:
      • Compliance with approved counterparty list
      • Compliance with established transactional limits
      • Compliance with approved portfolio/book limits
      • Accuracy and completeness
      • Book structure designation
    • Internal and external price validation
  • Generate daily risk control reports for distribution to management
  • Monitor trading activity and portfolio for Policy Compliance
  • Interaction with various internal and external audit groups
  • Work with accounting and settlements groups to resolve discrepancies
  • Assist in SOX Compliance and Internal Controls activities and assessments
  • Reconcile Risk Reports against the Financial Reporting System

Experience and Qualifications Required:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, general business, accounting or engineering
  • Working knowledge of oil refining
  • Working knowledge of basic risk management concepts
  • Working Knowledge of a risk system (Right Angle, Solarc, Endur, Triplepoint, ICTS, etc.)
  • Clear communication skills to various levels of the organization - both oral and written
  • Team oriented and comfortable interacting with diverse teams
  • Multi-tasking - ability to manage multiple contacts, databases, spreadsheets and tasks
  • Detail oriented and proficient in problem-solving
  • Strong analytical background with proficiency in the use of complex spreadsheets.
    Stress and deadline tolerant - responds constructively to challenges and short timelines
  • Must be able to work in an office environment
