What you will be doing:
Report to the Director of Safety and Environmental Affairs
Will be responsible and accountable for 2nd Shift safety compliance
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local legislation and codes governing health and safety.
Assess risk potential across the organization and ensuring proper signage, guarding, protection measures and training are in place.
Maintain and assist in the development of the sites SDS program.
Support protocols, overseeing, and conducting accident investigations, data analysis, and recurrence prevention programs and procedures.
Manage and track all safety violations on 2nd Shift, and assists with maintaining necessary records (OSHA etc.).
Participate in and/or direct the work of Safety Committees on 2nd Shift (including Walks, UCRs etc.)
Assist with the development of safety and compliance training for all levels of employees and ensure delivery of same to keep the facility in compliance.
Assist with industrial hygiene testing, occupational and general safety programs to ensure a safe environment which complies with safety standards.
Work with others to evaluate new safety equipment and management of necessary PPE.
Respond and provide assistance to all emergency situations.
Keep up-to-date on new safety methods and procedures to applicable codes and regulations or to maintain required level of certification.
What they need to have:
Bachelor Degree in a related field such as Environmental Science, or Occupational Health & Safety
1+ years of experience in Occupational Safety (including internships with some portion in the meat industry preferred).
Ability to demonstrate experience in the areas of accountability above (Skill in Health and Environmental is a plus).
Ability to analyze, prepare, and present safety data.
Ability to handle tough situations with ease, influence, and authority.
Ability to flex hours to meet the needs of the business.
Proficiency in software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Good communication skills
Be able to make field visits to industrial areas, and remain on feet for extended periods of time.
