Purpose:

Astellas Gene Therapies (formerly Audentes Therapeutics) is seeking an innovative and talented scientist with expertise in cell biology or tissue engineering to form part of the Vector Biosciences team located in our South San Francisco R&D laboratories. The successful candidate will develop assays to support the testing of our AAV gene therapy candidates and implement novel cell-based tools to advance our in vitro platform. The scientist will work within the Vector Biosciences team to progress early discovery research at Astellas Gene Therapies and develop superior in vitro systems for AAV vector characterization. The selected candidate will collaborate with scientists from In vitro Assay Development, Vector Research Core, Bioinformatics, and Bioanalytical groups at Astellas Gene Therapies. Additional responsibilities include overseeing projects carried out by external collaborators.





About you

Must-Have/Required

A Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology Tissue Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field is required. Qualified candidates will have first-author publications in disciplines such as virology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, tissue engineering, or transcriptomics.



The ideal candidate should have demonstrated expertise and working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: cell-based 3D systems, in vitro cellular reprogramming, tissue engineering, or stem cell biology. Critical thinking and familiarity with standard molecular biology techniques including western blotting, qPCR/ RT-PCR, immunofluorescence, and microscopy are essential. The candidate must have the ability to apply scientific principles to solve complex problems.



The candidate must be a good communicator with solid presentation skills and the ability to investigate and convey complex projects both verbally and in writing. Expectations for this position include a robust work ethic, being highly collaborative, initiating and completing investigative projects within the expected time frames, and emphasizing accuracy and high-quality work.

Preferred:


* Experience with models for ophthalmology, cardiovascular, and neuromuscular diseases preferred
* Experience working with viruses, especially Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV)
* 0-2+ years of postdoctoral experience preferred
