Job Summary

The Senior Associate Director, Leadership Giving at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business understands the principles of fundraising with a focus on individual giving and leadership volunteer management. This position will manage a team of leadership annual gift officers as well as hold a portfolio of leadership level ($2,500 - $100,000) Annual Fund donors. This position is charged with developing and managing a programmatic structure, including events, volunteer and recognition opportunities, and solicitation campaigns, for leadership level Annual Fund donors through the existing Dean's Society gift club. Periodic travel is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and oversees a leadership annual giving program for Booth Annual Fund leadership gift prospects and donors, establishing fundraising goals and priorities based on department objectives, designing strategies to meet those goals, and monitoring progress against goals. Advises and collaborates with staff throughout Chicago Booth and University Alumni Relations and Development to increase leadership annual gift activity for the Booth Annual Fund.
  • Hires, trains, and manages a team of leadership annual gift officers focused on the qualification, cultivation and solicitation of prospects capable of making gifts of $2,500-$100,000. Sets clear goals and expectations for team performance.
  • Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, and solicits prospective donors to maximize giving, concentrating on financial commitments of $2,500 to $100,000 or more. Manages a portfolio of prospects who are Annual Fund donors or leadership gift prospects. Plans and executes a target total of 75-120 visits per year and a commensurate number of Annual Fund solicitations. Determines creative cultivation and solicitation strategies. Plans and executes cultivation events in conjunction with event planning staff. Maintains strong communication links with various University colleagues to ensure a coordinated approach to prospects and donors. Assists in preparation and management of expenses. Monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with University policy and provides timely reporting.
  • Works collaboratively with donor relations colleagues to maintain a strong stewardship strategy for leadership giving donors through the Booth Dean's Society. Assists with events and attends evening and weekend functions as necessary.
  • Collaborates with Prospect Management and Major Gifts colleagues to advance dual-ask Annual Fund and Major Gifts strategies, and creates a major gift pipeline-building program with a collaborative nomination process to move leadership gift prospects into major gift portfolios.
  • Seeks opportunities for professional development.
  • Provides expertise to the development of plans to solicit prospective donors and meet campaign goals. This includes speaking to new prospects persuasively about the case for annual giving support.
  • Ensures quality control when monitoring various marketing channels by developing a targeted strategy for solicitation and marketing materials as well as campaign appeals, solving a range of complex problems as they arise.

Education:
  • Master's degree.

Experience:
  • A minimum five years of professional work experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, sales, public relations, or similar work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing gift prospects or similar experience.
  • Staff management experience.
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting and closing individual leadership gifts of $2,500+ or similar experience.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Zoom.
  • Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly, the internal workings of the University as well as the technology tools available to the Office of Advancement, including Griffin (the University's Donor Relationship Management System).

Working Conditions
  • This position is currently expected to work a minimum three days per week in the office.
  • Willing and able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Willing and able to travel to campus and/or non-campus locations for University business.
