What you will be doing:

The Engineer will work closely with a multi-functional, global team including R&D, Supply Chain, Quality, Creative Services, Marketing, and Asia Pacific Operations teams. The role will work in collaboration with sustainability teams in identifying and meeting their mid-and long-term goals. They will serve as a key contributor, leading packaging development for certain Health & Home (H&H) new product projects.

The individual must have a good understanding of flexible and rigid materials and how they relate to packaging equipment and product protection; and understand the financial impact of packaging programs and the linkage of packaging to business strategies (E-commerce, DTC, AMZ, Walmart, Tesco, etc).

Sustainability and Plastics Economy programs

  • The Sr. Packaging Engineer will be responsible to lead and help implement packaging projects that support company sustainability efforts, including identifying suppliers, selection of materials, determination of performance metrics, crafting packaging specifications, guiding testing, and helping to coordinate activities with a range of business partners and suppliers.
  • Identify and present cost reduction and quality improvement opportunities related to H&H and corporate sustainability projects.
  • Identify ground-breaking new and existing materials technology & package structure design options that deliver against sustainability goals and the reduction of plastic in packaging where possible.
  • Work with global multi-functional teams to effectively convey project goals and objectives in a compelling and realistic manner. Identify and initiate timelines, process improvements, and efficiency gains.
  • Collaborate with business partners, bring to bear their experience and connections to supplier partners, to assist with packaging challenges and solution efforts.


New Product Packaging Development
  • Propose and publish packaging development processes.
  • Accountable for direct functional testing including lab testing, plant trials, and packaging material qualifications for certain new product development initiatives.
  • Lead the development of a packaging testing acceptance criteria plan and disseminate it to all relevant partners.
  • Work with company and supplier partner packaging engineers to establish and maintain packaging structure design specifications, die line format files, and testing methods.
  • Development of new packaging technologies capable of running on existing or new equipment.
  • Ensure certain packaging structures meet global customer and regulatory requirements for materials and testing.

  • Possess a passion for sustainability and cost reduction to ensure we deliver on our company packaging commitments and programs profitably.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of related experience with a minimum of 5 years in a Packaging Development role.
  • Familiarity with some CPG retailer sustainability programs and goals
  • Combination of deep technical and business knowledge, strong project management skills, and multi-functional team interaction.
  • Possess 3D CAD skills vital for package design. Proficient in all the 3D conversions between the most popular 3D software.
  • Solid understanding of trailer, shipping container, and pallet loading, ASTM, and ISTA package testing standards.
  • Solve issues that arise from package development, able to work autonomously with limited direction.
  • Excellent project management, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong math and analytical skills to evaluate sophisticated packaging situations.
  • Previous experience in packaging development and implementation of new packaging structures and new materials.
  • Experience working with Amazon, specifically their requirements relating to SIOC packaging (ship in own container)


Preferred Qualifications:
  • CAPE, TOPS, Scorecard, Rapid Prototyping, Artios CAD, Solidworks, Pro/Engineer, AutoCAD, Microsoft Suite, and Package Integrity Testing Equipment
  • Experience and knowledge of the consumer packaging unboxing experience
  • Experience working with global/Asian manufacturers as it relates to packaging
  • Working experience of appliance or consumer packaging for CPG hard goods products
