As a Senior Procurement Solutions Professional at Caterpillar Inc., you'll play a vital role developing and executing strategies to deliver globally impactful cost improvement solutions. You'll collaborate closely with design engineering, procurement, New Product Introduction (NPI) teams and other partners outside your division to ensure seamless integration of cost improvement initiatives. Your primary role will involve leading cost analysis projects, providing recommendations for optimal costs and supporting supplier negotiations. These recommendations will be guided by cost models, critical industry data, and other relevant factors.

This role presents a unique opportunity to work cross functionally and globally with engineering and procurement teams to broaden your technical as well as purchasing experience. It offers the chance to work on a global scale, touching several commodities and products, making a significant impact on Caterpillar's success in the industry.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead a dynamic team of cost engineers, guiding and directing their efforts in creating robust should-cost models, and building data driven strategies for supplier negotiations. As part of your role, you will also drive strategic initiatives to gain insights into global markets, leveraging advanced cost analysis tools and global systems. Your comprehensive understanding of procurement landscape will be a key asset in achieving organizational excellence.
  • Actively build and nurture relationships with extended organizations, fostering collaboration and driving mutual success. Simultaneously, you will facilitate collaboration among cross-functional teams, orchestrating discussions in meetings with engineers, purchasing professionals and NPI teams. This dynamic environment will facilitate exchange of ideas and insights to drive strategic cost improvements.
  • Coordinate thorough cost analyses of various categories of parts and assemblies, leveraging extensive research to provide insights into industry trends and manufacturing costs. Explore factors such as raw materials, labor, energy, and transportation to inform procurement strategies and optimize cost efficiencies.
  • Generate data-driven recommendations for supplier negotiations, analyzing key metrics to address cost challenges effectively. Serve as a trusted advisor, utilizing industry knowledge.
What You Have (Basic Qualifications):
  • Education/experience: Bachelor's degree in a technical or business curriculum OR progressive experience in supply chain, procurement, technical, or business field.
  • Time Management: Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, ensuring seamless execution and optimal results.
  • Cost Analysis: Experience in leading and directing engineering and/or purchasing teams. Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes across many categories. Experience or understanding of cost analysis tools and processes.
  • Effective Communication: Proficient in leading discussions and meetings with cross-functional teams, including engineers, purchasing professionals, NPI teams and with other business units. Demonstrated ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely, fostering collaboration and alignment across diverse stakeholders to drive strategic cost improvement initiatives forward. Demonstrated ability to engage directly with senior leaders and present data-based recommendations to drive consensus and action.
  • Data Analytics: Skilled in conducting comprehensive cost analyses, utilizing advanced research techniques to gather and analyze industry information and trends. Capable of synthesizing large datasets and extracting actionable insights.
Top Candidates Will Have :
  • Experience in engineering design, and/or supplier manufacturing processes and management.
  • Experience with six sigma methodologies, Black Belt certification, or demonstrated lean process improvement experience to enhance operational excellence.
  • Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment.
  • Familiarity with heavy machinery or other similar industries, providing valuable context for immediate contribution.
  • Experience in systems such as Tableau, PowerBI, procurement systems, manufacturing management systems, and supply chain management systems.

  • Locations: Cary, NC; Clayton, NC or Sanford, NC
  • 10-20% domestic and international travel is expected.
