SUMMARY

The Senior Writer is responsible for writing compelling stories that illustrate the case for supporting Rochester Regional Health (RRH). The role will create impactful content for a variety of audiences and channels in support of fundraising goals for hospitals, service lines, and programs across the system. The Senior Writer must be able to convey complex healthcare concepts into easy-to-understand language and align content with key messages from system leaders. The role will conduct research and gather background information to develop thoughtful and inspiring content for fundraising, cultivation, and stewardship communications. The Senior Writer is a member of the Donor Engagement team within the Foundation.

LOCATION: 330 Monroe Avenue

DEPARTMENT: The Foundations

SCHEDULE: Weekdays, flexibility required

ATTRIBUTES
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Public Health, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Proposals and Cases for Support. Develop and write compelling proposals, case statements and concept papers that clearly articulate the needs of RRH and the impact of our work. Collaborates closely with the development team in crafting compelling donor proposals. Meet with internal stakeholders including clinicians and program staff to gather details and stories to communicate the impact of gifts to priority areas. Stay informed about Foundation priorities and system news, and use the information to develop persuasive materials for the Foundation. Collaborate with the system Marketing and Communications team to share content, align messaging and create designs that fit into the system brand.
  • Donor Engagement Communications. Research, write, edit, and project-manage a range of communications, including stewardship pieces, campaign materials, video scripts, event materials, digital content and other communications as needed. Create copy for a variety of platforms, including print, digital and video. Work closely with event planners to develop event scripts that aim at boosting constituent engagement. Craft impactful remarks, speeches, or talking points for the Foundation President and other leaders to ensure compelling communication. Describe complex healthcare matters in clear, persuasive language to present a concise rationale for philanthropy. Prioritize individualized communications at the principal gifts and major gifts levels, inspiring new or continued philanthropy at the highest giving tiers.
  • Project Management. Work with team members to establish project timelines. Monitor progress and manage project workflows to meet deadlines. Manage multiple projects simultaneously and keep a comprehensive plan of all work in progress. Conduct research and independently incorporate changes, comments and critiques from multiple reviewers using exceptional writing and editing skills; exercise sound judgment with regard to strategy, appropriate points of emphasis and persuasive impact. Determine appropriate approvers to ensure accuracy of content.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

PAY RANGE: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
