Summary

Reporting into the Head of GDS (Americas), this role is to develop and facilitate the expansion of the Direct Sourcing Opportunities across CRH. Working closely with category teams, businesses, opportunities for alternative sources of supply of parts or products will be investigated, evaluated and executed.

The role will include the following:

Design and Specification Creation

  • Manage the reverse engineering process using available metrology (through manual measurements and 3D Laser Scanning methods) and laboratory specialists
  • Conversion of 3D scan files in .iges and similar formats into 2D CAD drawing files
  • Establishing relevant standards and compliance requirements
  • Defining the Quality Control criteria and test procedures
  • Creation of product specification and quality inspection documents
  • Management and backup of all project information, this incl. ensuring compliance with EU, US and International Standards

Sourcing

Supporting GDS Sourcing Managers with day-to-day activities:

  • Strengthening the relationships and alignment with the GDS teams in Asia and Europe
  • Building relationships, where necessary, with the technical contacts at manufacturers (e.g. in Americas)
  • In close collaboration with GDS managers - researching, appraising and engaging with suppliers on technical issues
  • Identify cost drivers to support the negotiation of prices
  • Supporting the auditing and evaluation of manufacturers (particularly in the Americas)

Data Management and Reporting

  • Supporting with database administration - management and control of a large volume of engineering drawings, specifications, technical manuals and project information
  • Other appropriate duties as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's level engineering qualification
  • Commercial and financial competency would be an advantage
  • 1-3 years' experience working in a construction related manufacturing environment
  • English language skills & a second language (e.g. Spanish) would be an advantage

  • Have the ability to make sound design decisions
  • Demonstrate logical and critical thinking, be able to think on their feet and adapt accordingly as circumstances change
  • Be an effective communicator along with an ability to build effective relationships
  • Possess strong analytical skills
  • Proficiency in CAD Software (.dwg)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Project
  • Experience in databases and management systems would be an advantage
  • The candidate should be willing to travel and have some flexibility regarding hours of work.
