SUMMARY:

Lead engine performance and emissions development projects involving gasoline and diesel engine testing on an engine dynamometer testbed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads and participates in department activities to test and develop diesel and gasoline engines and to help improve engine testing and data analysis techniques.
  • Supports engine dynamometer test cells with work instructions and test plans that can be used by the technicians to properly set up and execute the scope of a given engine test project.
  • Ensures that the test equipment used during each engine test program that he / she is involved with meets customer accuracy and repeatability requirements and is properly calibrated.
  • Analyzes engine performance and emissions test data from gasoline and diesel engines, reduces the data to a reportable format and makes recommendations / directs future test plans based on information in these reports.
  • Analyzes gasoline and diesel engine performance and emissions technology trends and market demand to plan projects and understand customer requirements that will drive future business.
  • Confers with department manager and / or program management staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost, and timing for engine development quotes.
  • Leads quoting activities for customer quote requests involving gasoline or diesel engine development or durability testing.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of new engine testing technologies that may improve testing operations and increase department efficiency.
  • Confers with project management staff to ensure that project budget, timing and quality requirements of his / her portion of the program scope are being satisfied.
  • Prepares project reports, in Microsoft Powerpoint or Word format, for management, clients or potential clients.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field and three or more years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • In depth knowledge of internal combustion engines and testing techniques.
  • Work effectively with a variety of people such as; management, design, calibration and build engineers, as well as customers and supplier representatives.
  • Experience in multiple customer development systems and technologies.
  • Ability to recognize new business opportunities.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Logical and methodical approach to tasks.
  • Microsoft Office Skills
  • Presentation Skills
  • Familiarity with industry standard calibration tools preferable
  • Experience with advanced plotting packages preferable
  • Experience with both gasoline and diesel engines
