Position Summary:

This position will report directly to the Corporate VP, Strategic Planning and Dexcom Labs. The strategic and competitive insights group is responsible for providing strategic insights, tracking and analysis of the competitive market place and products relevant to Dexcom's strategy and products particularly in the areas of continuous sensing, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), health wearables, diabetes device companies, and emerging trends in health care. The role will manage the daily monitoring, report out, and organizational interactions of the Strategic and Competitive Insights group.

The role will be in the Corporate Strategic Planning team, with an opportunity to interface with Finance, Corporate Development, Information Technology, R&D functional groups, Legal, Advance Technology R&D, Upstream Marketing, Clinical and IP groups.

We are looking for a leader with a medical technical background, business acumen, financial modeling, project management experience, and strong communication skills. The ideal candidate will be effective in digesting and summarizing large amounts of incoming data, able to maintain multiple concurrent projects, skilled in drafting robust written documentation and communication, and interface with technical and non-technical internal stakeholders. Preferred previous experience in a competitive intelligence roles.

The primary activities for this role include:

  • Lead teams supporting the strategic and competitive insights framework and data based to support annual and long-term strategic planning.
  • Provide vision and oversight for the development and maintenance of strategic competitive intelligence database
  • Lead and develop data-supported assessments to guide strategy and generate the key insights required to inform strategic decisions, potentially spanning discovery through the go-to-market planning.
  • Provide management and board level competitive and strategic market updates and what-if scenario planning
  • Maintain summaries and regular communication with stakeholders
  • Oversee research, analysis and tracking of market sizing and data tracking healthcare trends and market sizing data.
  • Develop infrastructure and support processes for maintaining prioritization strategy for future commercial partners and opprotunities.
  • Produce data-driven market evaluations to support new market identification, product/program development, and business development activities.
  • Manage and facilitate competitive product assessments for features, performance, technical merit, cost and business value.
  • Evaluate & track emerging technologies in startups and academic groups.
  • Participate and coordinate resources to support due diligence efforts for acquisition or licensing opportunities.
  • Facilitate, evaluate and identify opportunities in academic partnerships
  • Facilitate IP & FTO evaluations as related to competitive products.
  • Support R&D advanced research and technology scouting and research
  • Interface with upstream marketing, clinical, commercial and product research for competitive analysis and product/technology roadmap development
  • Generate financial market opportunity and what-if analyses to support new business cases, business development, and the commercial strategy.
  • Competitive corporate wargaming
  • Manage department resources with direct and dotted line reports

Required Qualifications:
  • Senior level financial acumen.
  • Knowledge of the medical technical and/or healthcare industry, key players, and market dynamics.

Additional Experience (Strongly Preferred):
  • Masters in Business Administration (MBA)
  • Proven ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity/uncertainty and a willingness to try new/challenging things
  • Experience with data management and process.
  • Demonstrated technical project management skills
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and writing) with engineers, management, marketing, health care professionals and patients
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Experience with medical devices and working in a regulated industry

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree with 17+ years of industry experience.
  • 13+ years of years of successful leadership experience in relevant industry.
