Position Summary:

  • Responsible for designing and implementing methods and equipment for process improvements and controlling manufacturing costs.
  • Provide engineering and technical expertise in No Bake foundry process operations with emphasis on improving safety conditions, developing productivity improvements, implementing quality standards, , and reducing scrap, non-conformities, and returns.
  • Collaborate closely with tooling and pattern design to ensure effective and efficient tool qualification & PPAP processes.
Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, production, assembly, tooling and materials
  • Mentor junior engineers and develop knowledge of processes
  • Support development of foundry strategic plan and lead execution of strategic plan
  • Utilize knowledge of foundry processes and casting defects to identify and resolve non-conformities
  • Utilize problem solving methodologies such as 6 Sigma, 8D and 5 Why to continually improve the process
  • Develop process documentation, training, and controls to ensure product quality and consistency
  • Complete machine guarding, ergonomics, and human factors assessments
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency through analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment layout.
  • Provide manufacturing decision making information by calculating production, labor and material costs, reviewing production schedules and estimating future requirements.
  • Functionally understand CAD modeling and rigging geometry for tooling engineering
  • Collect, analyze and summarize data, information and trends to prepare product and process reports. Maintain product and process data.
  • Implement new systems and procedures as designed.
  • Utilize FMEA, DFMEA and DOE's to drive continuous improvement in the manufacturing and engineering processes.
  • Support equipment troubleshooting by working with maintenance team and outside vendors
  • Develop and mentor staff and technicians
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participation in related professional organizations.
  • Direct efforts to meet and/or exceed compliance with all regulatory bodies, organizations and government requirements in the performance of position duties.
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgy and 8+ years experience in foundry operations
  • OR 12+ Years in foundry operations with relevant duties
  • Working knowledge of melt, molding, core make, casting finishing, tooling, and other aspects of foundry production
  • Experience collaborating with product design, tooling engineering, and quality for product qualification and PPAP processes.
  • Experience with capital projects scope development, justification and management.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma tools.
  • Outstanding PC/Systems knowledge and skills.
  • Strong leadership, communications and interpersonal skills with ability to interact with all levels of employees, customers and outside professionals.
  • Knowledge dealing with complex manufacturing situations, hardware specifications, quality standards, product development, CAD/CAM and technical specifications.
