POSITION PURPOSE:
The Sr. Tax Accountant will report to the Tax Director and will assist in the review of the Company's tax filings across various tax jurisdictions the Company operates in for indirect tax purposes. This includes the Company's sales and use tax returns and other tax compliance matters as assigned by the Tax Director. This role will manage 1-2 exempt Tax Accountants and also interface with various consultants and firms used by the Company. This role requires limited supervision, and the individual should be able to schedule, plan, and establish their own priorities for the tasks they need to accomplish. The position is based out of the Company's headquarters in Winchester, VA, and is a hybrid schedule.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to excel at the essential functions assigned. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and ability required.



Experience
* Minimum of 2-4 years experience in sales and use taxes.
* Strong working knowledge of ERP/Accounting Applications and Tax Software.
o Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills required.
o Experience with Vertex O-series indirect tax system
o Experience with Tax Research Systems (CCH, RIA, and/or BNA) required.
o Oracle and JDE experience preferred.

Education
* BS or BA degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or another related field.
* CPA or equivalent certification is preferred.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Review the Company's sales and use tax returns prepared by the tax accountant.
* Supervise 1-2 tax accountants as direct reports.
* Manage the resolution of any sales and use tax notices received from various jurisdictions.
* Manage the reports needed to process sales and use tax returns in the Vertex indirect tax system.
* Manage the tax variance holds in conjunction with the accounts payable team.
* Manage the issuance of tax exemption certificates to the Company's vendors.
* Manage any sales and use tax audits and the resolution of outstanding issues in various taxing jurisdictions.
* Aid in training of other direct reports and/or other team members.
* Participate in cross-functional teams as required.
* Be a subject matter expert for sales and use taxes.
* Commit to organizational excellence and constant awareness to seek opportunities to improve processes/quality of deliverables.
* Ability to organize facts, analyze, interpret information, and perform research.
* Review adjusting and accruing journal entries, perform detailed account reconciliations, and complete work papers for sales and use tax accounts.
* Keep current on tax laws and research complex tax issues.
* Support the Tax Director on ad-hoc projects and other duties as assigned.

* Reports to the Director of Tax
* Travel Requirements: Typically, travel is not required for this position.
