Position Summary

This Wallingford, CT based Strategic Sourcing Specialist will work principally with the Teleflex Global Commodity Team to maintain a solid understanding of global supply chain initiatives and leverage the team to continue to build strategic partnerships with suppliers to benefit Teleflex Globally. This person will act as a valuable resource in supporting Manufacturing last time buy decisions through transitions to new suppliers, and will interface with Supplier Quality Engineering, R&D Operations, and Cost Accounting in assessing risk with components of suppliers and will develop plans to mitigate as necessary.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Maintain relationships and negotiate with suppliers for cost downs.
  • Consult with Engineering, Marketing, Planning, and Manufacturing to develop appropriate product introduction plans from a procurement perspective.
  • Manage complex supply chain activities, often involving multiple components, suppliers, and manufacturing processes.
  • Recommend new technology and/or suppliers to engineers.
  • Negotiate and write contracts as needed to purchase goods and services. Find and secure cost savings opportunities.
  • Develop the supply chain strategy for assigned new product development projects. Analyze supplier capacities and capabilities, and initiate and develop team approach to complex sourcing decisions.
  • Serves as a liaison between appropriate company personnel and supplier representatives to ensure suppliers are equipped with needed tools, materials, and specifications.
  • Collaborate with R&D and drive supplier selection for new products. Provides input on available sources, costs, lead time, and new technologies.
  • Recommend standard costs for new components and assemblies to ensure accurate costing of products. Responsible for providing standard cost of newly released components and reviewing and support updating standard cost of existing components (annually) through transition to plant procurement.
  • Primary contact for all supplier communications with respect to total cost, delivery, quality, specifications, and contract obligations.


Principal Working Relationships:

  • Global Commodity Team: Maintains a solid understanding of global supply chain initiatives and leverages the team to continue to build strategic partnerships with suppliers to benefit Teleflex Globally.
  • Manufacturing: Supports last time buy decisions to support manufacturing through transition to new supplier or component alternative.
  • Supplier Quality Engineering: Participates with the supplier quality engineers in completing supplier evaluations and quality audits. Utilizes the SQE's to aid in resolution of supplier-related quality issues.
  • R&D/Operations Engineering: Provides input on available sources, costs, lead time, andnew technologies.
  • Cost Accounting: Responsible for providing standard cost of newly released components and reviewing and support updating standard cost of existing components (annually) through transitionto plant procurement.
  • Suppliers:Primary contact for all supplier communications with respect to total cost, delivery, quality, specifications, and contract obligations.


Education / Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years' experience in purchasing
  • Medical Device procurement a plus
  • Familiarity with supply chain and inventory management systems
  • Understanding of forecasting and budgeting
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • BA or BS in business or management field preferred


Specialized Skills / Other Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of purchasing practices, supplier development and negotiation of business-critical procurement agreements.
  • MRP and ERP systems- SAP strongly desired, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
