Position Overview

Novelis Davenport is looking to add a Supply Chain Lead to it's Davenport team at our Casting facility. The purpose of this role is to manage, coordinate and direct activities in the areas of planning, production scheduling, inventory control and customer service in a cost effective manner. This position is the point of contact regarding supply chain activities for the site.
Responsibilities & Qualifications

Core Accountabilities:

  • Maintains a safe working environment by complying with Novelis HSE standards and policies, all state and federal regulations, and company policies and procedures.
  • Implements and maintains the safety program in the facility's supply chain department. Maintains a constant vigilance for safe and healthy working conditions of employees. This includes responsibility for maintaining a high standard for housekeeping practices. Make employees aware of job hazards directly and through subordinate supervisor. Ensures proper safety training of employees and compliance with company safety rules and procedures. Leads safety initiatives as it pertains to department needs. Investigates accidents to determine and eliminate the cause. Works closely with site HSE personnel.
  • Develops local supply chain strategy that supports and meets company strategy, company performance objectives and customer expectations.
  • Evaluates metal inputs and ensure proper replenishment of raw metal including scrap and direct inputs. Ensure effective balance of scrap types to support production schedule. Utilize scrap metal management tools such as Blendmaster to manage and communicate strategic scrap planning.
  • Manages inbound scrap flow utilizing scheduling and appointment tools. Manage policies and procedures to process inbound loads through scale house. Establish procedures to evaluate and maintain target inventory levels.
  • Develops and maintains processes to ensures development and distribution of core supply chain metrics focusing on performance, customer centricity, inventory, delivery and recovery/metal yield.
  • Direct timely customer communication and technology-enabled visibility of order and inventory tracking.
  • Determine and communicate forecasting data analysis in support of Sales and Operations Planning, corporate supply chain and local operations team.
  • Develop and coordinate procedures for effective planning, scheduling and utilization of materials through MRP and related tools. Recommend equipment and crewing to provide on-time products to customers in a cost effective manner. Direct in-plant activities regarding planning and scheduling, material flow, and customer service.
  • Develops and monitors processes focused on inventory control and productivity levels. Owns cycle counts to ensure accurate inventory. Ensures seamless month close and rollforward of inventory balances.
  • Participates in continuous improvement teams and initiatives. Set department objectives to include CI projects to move the business forward.
  • Work within the parameters created by the ISO9001:2015 quality system.
  • Perform all other duties and projects as assigned and required by the Plant Manager & Supply Chain Manager.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    Education and Experience

    Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Industrial Engineering, or related field. Experience in production planning and control in a manufacturing environment.

    Knowledge of raw materials, distribution of goods and manufacturing processes.

    An understanding of business and management principles, leadership strategies and strategic planning.

    Familiarity with the principles of supply chain management. 7-10+ years documented business experience as a supply chain professional. Related manufacturing and logistics experience a plus. Extensive knowledge of business systems.

    Required Skills

    Strong analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills. Computer proficient; i.e., pivot tables, Access, data conversion with ability to present functional specifications to the IT Department. Ability to work independently with minimal direction.

    Preferred Skills

    Experience working with manufacturing based technology, processes and principles. Ability to learn new software packages quickly and apply knowledge to daily tasks and projects. Ability to demonstrate effective team leadership and team membership skills.

    Ability to provide clear expectations and work task assignments to direct reports, create a shared understanding of strategic direction, promotes a sense of purpose across all levels of the manufacturing team and inspires motivation. Possess a strong customer orientation.

    Must possess strong decision making and problem solving skills including the ability to solve problems while exhibiting practical judgment and realistic understanding of the issues involved. Must be able to overcome obstacles and find reasonable resolutions to situations on a case by case basis as encountered. Must have the ability and confidence to make decisions relating to role's accountabilities. Must exercise discretion when determining if direction from manager is needed.

    Ability to use logic, math and database tools to support strategic plans and tactical initiatives.

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Must be able to recognize data needed in order to make decisions, collect data, and analyze in order to determine direction in which to proceed. If issue is beyond authority level or scope of work, must recommend plan of action to manager in order to proceed.

    Location Profile

    Established in 1991 the Davenport Casting facility employs more than 200 people and serves the building and construction industry. The site produces hot rolled coil by utilizing specialized blending melting and continuous casting processes to produce high-quality aluminum sheet from predominantly recycled materials. Davenport Casting has an active social responsibility committee that supports many organizations in the local community including Habitat for Humanity Riverbend Food Bank CASI and more. The facility also sponsors local events including their partnership with Junior Achievement in sponsoring and presenting at the Advanced Manufacturing Career Day.
