Schedule: M-F, 8am - 5pm; evenings and weekends as needed; Mainly remote position with occasional on-site hours as needed to fulfill on campus job duties and on-duty.

Position Summary

The System Engineer, Virtual andCloud Infrastructure is a high-level professional position responsible forarchitecture, implementation and administration of virtual server and desktopenvironments. This position will perform technical activities related tosupporting the CSCC on-premises and cloud environments and is responsible forvirtualized information technology equipment and systems. This role may requireproject leadership and is the subject matter expert for their assigned systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Servers, Virtualization& Storage

Performs specialized dutiesinvolved in the planning, installation, configuration, operation, development,modification, maintenance, and repair of virtualized systems, software, andapplications. Installs and configures physical servers, including operatingsystems, software applications, and tools.

Designs, builds, operates, andmaintains on-premises and cloud virtual server and desktop infrastructure inaccordance with the College's virtualization needs and recommended bestpractices.

Security, Compliance &Documentation

Documents engineering solutionsand standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure services are delivered in aneffective and efficient manner for assigned and related areas ofresponsibility. Ensures policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are beingmet and followed according to college practices.

Management, Monitoring,Troubleshooting

Assures minimum serviceinterruptions by analyzing performance, scalability and availability ofresources. Develops strategies for, and completes performance tuning of,College mission-critical virtualization systems. Analyzes, tests, and troubleshootsassigned systems. Performs Tier 3 troubleshooting and serves as an escalationpoint for any issues Tier 1&2 support are unable to resolve. Schedulessystem downtime with end users and technical staff members to facilitatehardware and software changes following CSCC change management procedures.

Architecture, Design &Project Management

Understandsand documents the technical requirements for new services or serviceenhancements. Advises on technological decisions & provides serviceimplementation estimates. Supports the overall operations of assignedenvironments, ensuring they meet requirements & performance goals.Identifies reusable/preconfigured service components or standard products fromthe market to leverage & assemble the service/solution. Works closely withappropriate stakeholders to ensure implementation meets design requirements.

Other Duties andResponsibilities

Attends all required departmentmeetings and training. Required to serve on On-Call/On-Duty rotations forafter-hours support, 24/7 availability.

Usual PhysicalRequirements

The employee regularly exhibitsdigital dexterity when entering data into computer, frequently sits forextended periods of time, and occasionally stands and walks. Employeeoccasionally reaches with hands or arms and stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls.Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Visiondemands include close, detailed vision when focusing on computer screen.Employee pushes large carts, lifts equipment from shelves, and carriesequipment from building to building by hand weighing up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions

Typicaloffice environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to businessoffices. Working environment has occasional exposure to dirt, dust and outdoor weatherconditions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: Virtualization of servers and desktops (VMware vSphere, Horizon, vRealize Suite); Cloud hosted services support and deployment methodologies (AWS & Azure); highly available and resilient system design; networking configuration and technologies; Enterprise Storage (SAN & vSAN); Server hardware, KVM, and Power management and monitoring; basic project management; Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery (Zerto & Cohesity); server and desktop operating systems and management (Windows & Linux, GPO, SCCM); system and application deployment & packaging (System Center); system monitoring and logging (Graylog, ELK, & Syslog).Skill in: verbal and oral communication; operating job equipment; planning, scheduling and organizing work; general typing; application of job software programs; application of technical skills in area of specialization.Ability to: think creatively and exploit opportunities; simplify and synthesize complex situations with consideration to all elements; work independently demonstrating initiative; develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the College; effectively work with persons of varying cultures and diversity; analyze technical problems, troubleshoot and draw appropriate conclusions; perform light manual labor for extended periods of time; maintain confidential and sensitive information; maintain accurate and complete work records; coordinate multiple activities and tasks; exhibit flexibility in work schedule and job tasks; apply technical and analytical applications.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalency. At least (5) years of progressively responsible technical experience managing and/or engineering virtualization environments. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s). An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.
