Applications are accepted on a continual basis and kept on file for Clinical Teaching Assistant in our Associate Degree Nursing programs. Teaching Assistants work on an as needed basis, will adhere to the aforementioned mission statement, and will assist with clinical learning experiences for students in the ADN Program under the supervision of a Master's prepared ADN Program faculty member.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Required: Associate Degree in Nursing

Preferred: Bachelors degree in Nursing.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

Required:

  • Current and unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Texas. The Texas Board of Nursing recommends that CTAs have the same, or higher level of education as the level of the nursing program in which they are teaching
  • Current CPR certification, hepatitis B immunization, measles immunization (if born after 1956), current flu vaccine, and negative TB skin test or chest x-ray, if applicable.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

  • Clinical expertise to function effectively and safely in the designated areas of teaching.
  • Evidence of competence in nursing skills.
  • Evidence of continued education.
  • Evidence of competence in patient care.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work under stress.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to deal with people in a professional manner.
  • Able to stand for long periods, to walk long distances, and to lift 50 lbs.
  • Aware of an environment where there is a potential exposure to infectious diseases.
  • Daytime, evening, early morning, and weekend work may be required.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Qualified faculty member must be physically present and readily available to the CTA in the agency or alternative practice setting during student clinical learning experiences.
  • Faculty/CTA to student ratio may not exceed 2(faculty plus CTA): 15 students.
  • CTAs may not be responsible for other staff duties such as supervising other personnel and/or patient care in the health care agency, while functioning as a CTA.
  • Clinical faculty member will retain responsibility and accountability for grading students' written work, testing required skills competencies and evaluating students' performance for purposes of the Clinical Performance Evaluation of Competencies (CPEC).
  • Support clinical faculty member in identifying and securing clinical learning experiences for students.
  • Practicing under the supervision of a Master's or Doctorally prepared nursing faculty member, CTAs in the ADN Program function in the role of clinical supervisor and are responsible for supervision of students' skills performance.
  • CTAs may not supervise a student when they are being tested in a specific skill.
  • Demonstrate and maintain professional competence in the use of instructional technology/electronic health records especially through clinical practice and continuing education.
  • Attend briefings on clinical procedures and general program policy regularly with the faculty member.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with students.
  • Protecting confidentiality of student information.
  • Reporting all student incidents and injuries to the faculty member.
  • Supporting clinical and agency policies and procedures.
  • Abiding by ADN Program and agency dress codes and professional behavior expectations.
  • Complete appropriate administrative paperwork and performance evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Educate themselves regarding College policies.
  • Ensure effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
  • Assume responsibility for the orderliness of the learning environment and in the appropriate and safe use of instructional facilities and equipment.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events as necessary or scheduled).

Working Environment: This job may operate in a variety of clinical settings.

Salary: Aligned with the current Amarillo College Salary Schedule for the represented position grade, commensurate with experience.
