The Department of Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for multiple full-time tenure-track faculty positions. Qualified candidates at all ranks will be considered, but those at the Assistant Professor level are especially encouraged to apply. Primary target areas of interest are nuclear power, nuclear materials, and radiological applications. In addition to these areas, exceptional applicants in all areas relevant to the department will be considered.

The Department of Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering has strong efforts in nuclear power, nuclear materials, fundamental and applied plasma physics, radiation detection and measurements, security and safeguards, reliability and risk, and biomedical applications. We are seeking faculty who can teach in these areas, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, while demonstrating the ability to establish strong research and academic programs. The Department of Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering has a strong undergraduate program with three professional concentration areas and a number-6th ranked graduate program. The Department has 14 FTE faculty members within the highly-regarded and world-renowned Grainger College of Engineering. Our facilities include HIDRA, a large-scale plasma device that is unique within U.S. academia.

In addition, the UIUC campus is home to the Carle Illinois College of Medicine , the Beckman Institute of Advanced Science and Technology , the Holonyak Micro & Nanotechnology Lab , the Frederick Seitz Materials Research Laboratory , and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications . These units facilitate innovative research derived from interdisciplinary collaboration across the UIUC campus.

A doctorate degree in nuclear engineering or related disciplines is required at the start date, and rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
