Job Title:
Theatre Program Manager
Job Description:Sarah Lawrence College Theatre Program is a community of generous and engaged artists who value diverse, intentional, and rigorous research, process, and creation. We hold each other and ourselves accountable to responsibly challenge ourselves and each other to foster our growth as individuals and collaborative artists. We support innovation, not only in the art we produce but also in the systems we make to learn, share, and create. Through an interdisciplinary curriculum that prioritizes equality, care, and experimentation, we aim to create an artistic environment steeped in joy to envision and build a better future. This is an open and inclusive community where everyone is welcome. Each semester, the program produces student workshop productions, guest lectures, guest residencies, a reading series featuring new works from student playwrights, and one annual musical in the Spring in two theaters on campus as well in classroom blackboxes. The Theatre Program Manager oversees the support of undergraduate and graduate theatre students, alumni, guests, and faculty while acting as the liaison with the college at large. Essentially this role acts as "front of house" for the entire program, organizing communication, registration, auditions, recruiting, scheduling, and special events. The Program Manager should strive to understand most general knowledge about the Theatre Program, and work to keep the community connected with the information they need for day-to-day operations. Great writing and communication skills are important as they create and proofread most documents, newsletters, forms, press releases, and website copy for all theatre publications. They must be well organized to oversee the registration of up to 225 theatre student schedules and facilitate the distribution of correct class rosters to 35 theatre faculty members. They also manage the college's campus scheduling system to book theatre classes, rehearsals, and performances.
The Program Manager also produces events with exciting guest artists, specialized workshops, and professional field prep programming. They organize the season selection process with a committee of students and faculty, then facilitate the auditions, callbacks, and casting for the selected creative projects. As a recruiter, the Program Manager handles inquiries about the Theatre Program by setting up tours, hosting Q & A events, scheduling individual meetings with MFA candidates, and moderating the MFA interview process. In support of these duties, the Theatre Program Manager supervises 2 part-time graduate-level Program Assistants, 1 Graduate Events Coordinator, 2 undergraduate Program Assistants, and a small staff of "Grads On Duty" trained to oversee safety for the front of house in the Performing Arts Center. The Program Manager reports directly to the Director of the Theatre Program and works closely with the Production Staff, the Program Associate Producer, the Student Involvement and Leadership office, the Provost, SLC Events, Alumni Relations, and Advancement. This is a 35-hour-per-week staff position with a 4-hour-per-week Affiliate Faculty position (to teach a class in their specialty area) for a total of 39 hours per week.
This position works under an annual 10-month contract from August 1st to May 31st with salary distribution over 12 month period.
