JOB DUTIES

  • Manages and directs the work of yard crew. Trains new employees as needed.
  • Ensures crew safety by promoting and evaluating safety practices within the department. Completes incident reports as necessary. Establishes new safety procedures and training as relevant.
  • Coordinates department functions with the other departments to ensure optimal product quality, storage, handling and distribution.
  • Coordinates receipt and movement of scrap materials within and outside the plant.  
  • Complete daily and monthly NQA requirement tasks including safety meetings with follow-up, job observations and training.
  • Complete managerial tasks using computers, radios, and phones. Radio/Phones to communicate the support needs of the departments to the operators. Computer documentation of scrap received, product in and out and supplies and for research of these. E-time.
  • Share information with crews gained through various training sessions (supervisory classes) to improve/enhance department operations.
  • Monitor and manage employee attendance.  Maintain E-time records accurately.
  • Administer progressive disciplinary remedial actions when needed for unacceptable employee behavior.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the union contract as it pertains to CSRM yard department staff.
  • Must possess the ability to direct the work of subordinate staff, to train, coach, and to apply problem solving skills for conflict resolution or issues arising in the department.
  • Strong knowledge of scrap yard operations, practices and principles.
  • Ability to operate the various tools, equipment, hardware and software necessary to perform the duties of this position including a PC, Microsoft Office applications, scanner, 2-way radio, and 10-key. Also, lift equipment such as a handtruck, forklift, or overhead crane.
  • Effectively manage employees to ensure compliance with all safety guidelines including the wearing of protective equipment and clothing at all times.
  • Ability to troubleshoot common problems with tools and equipment and to perform basic repairs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Climbing:  Frequently.  Ascending or descending stairs, stacks and ladders on a daily basis. 
  • Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching:  Frequently. To pick up parts or equipment. 
  • Standing/Walking:  Continually.  Within the manufacturing plant as well as outdoors.
  • Reaching:  Frequently.  To retrieve supplies, parts and equipment.  
  • Pushing/Pulling/Lifting:  Continually.  To move items within the manufacturing plant or outdoors and to perform yard duties. Lifting devices are used for items weighing over 50 pounds.
  • Grasping:  Continually.  To gather supplies or to compile and assemble paperwork. 
  • Repetitive Motions of the hands/wrists/fingers:  Frequently. To enter or retrieve data from the computer or to use tools, supplies and equipment.
  • Sitting:  Rarely.
USE OF SENSES
  • Talking in Person/By Telephone or Two Way Radio:  Continually.  To communicate with co-workers or supervisors to gather information or to give direction.
  • Hearing:  Continually.  To listen, in person and over the phone or two way radio, and to understand despite a potentially loud environment. Ability to detect equipment malfunction or irregularities in tools or machinery.
  • Vision:  Continually.  To read either paperwork, measurement devices, or information on a computer monitor. Good visual acuity necessary for safety reasons in a warehouse and manufacturing environment and essential to ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Smell:  Continually.  To detect irregularities or hazards such as gas, fire, smoke or fumes.
  • Touch:  Continually.  To use tools, equipment, parts and materials to perform the duties of the job. To enter or retrieve data from a computer.
ENVIRONMENTAL

Work is typically performed in a outdoor yard environment. It may require the ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds, and/or to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.

A worker in this position will often be subject to outdoor environmental conditions such as snow, rain, heat and/or plant and warehouse conditions such as dust/dirt, noise and temperature extremes while performing job duties. PPE is required and will be provided to you by the company.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in an manufacturing environment, preferably in a supervisory role.
