This position can be based in any of the following locations and is eligible for fully remote work: California, Georgia, Maryland, New York tri-state, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Role Summary

The Unified Communications (UC) Engineer is responsible for the operational upkeep, development, and deployment of the firm's overall UC systems. This position drives innovative new technologies and approaches to enhance and transform existing global UC systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer the configuration and ongoing operational integrity of key enterprise wide production UC platforms, including Microsoft Exchange - Office 365 hybrid, with Exchange 2016, Teams with SBCs, Cisco Meeting Server and CUCM, Polycom conferencing infrastructure, Mobility (MDM solutions) applications and processes. Supports initiatives for improving the availability and performance of the production systems.
  • Provide timely troubleshooting support for UC infrastructure in alignment with key third party vendors including Microsoft, Apple, Cisco, Proofpoint and Veritas. Drives improved operational uptime standards to provide a highly available Unified Communications environment.
  • Collaborate with Team on the analysis of the current technology environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.
  • Operate as the subject matter expert regarding technology trends and the practical application of existing, new and emerging technologies to enable advanced UC (on premise and cloud based) operating models.
  • Collaborate with the Enterprise Architect and Infrastructure engineering teams, Project Management Office, and Information Security to enable changes in platform systems.
  • Participate in the review of technology trends and the practical application of existing, new and emerging technologies to enable advanced UC communications (on premise and cloud based) operating models.
  • Develop services for improving availability & performance of the production systems.
  • Collaborate with technical subject matter experts and peers to propose and execute architectures that enable and drive new business capabilities and operating models for audio, video, email and social media messaging systems.
  • Assist with designing the governance, assurance and standards activities associated with ensuring enterprise technology architecture compliance.
  • Oversees critical technology implementations for new or shared cloud infrastructure solutions.
  • Consults on application or infrastructure development projects to harmonize systems to identify when it is necessary to modify the enterprise technical architecture (ETA) to accommodate future project needs.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
  • Experienced in Office 365, MS Exchange 2016 hybrid environments, Windows server 2016 or higher, MS Teams, Powershell, Azure, ADFS synchronization and Mail transport protocols.
  • Experienced with email security systems such as Proofpoint, Exchange Online Protection, DKIM, SPF, DMARC, PGP and S\MIME encryption.
  • Experienced with Mobile Device Management solutions such as Workspace One.
  • Experience with email archiving solutions such as Enterprise Vault.
  • Experienced with Video Conferencing bridging systems such as Cisco Meeting Server and Polycom systems.
  • Working knowledge of Cisco CUCM version 12 or higher with SBC integration to Teams.
  • Experienced with migrating and integrating on-premises email and other unified communication services to cloud solutions.
  • Strong foundational skills in basic computing and networking.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and an ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Knowledge of relevant productivity tools (e.g. MS Office, Visio).


Education & Experience
  • Bachelors' degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • 5+ years of design, implementation and support experience in unified communications


Physical Activity/Other Miscellaneous
  • Ability to work outside of standard office hours as part of an after-hours on call rotation.
