Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating the general maintenance and refurbishment of wheelchairs in conjunction with inmate volunteer program.  Also assists with instruction and training of inmates in compliance with Company and contractual directives.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the maintenance and repair of wheelchairs as part of Wheels of the World program.
  • Oversees the repair of parts when possible. Replaces parts as needed.
  • Oversees the building of functional wheelchairs with parts from several nonfunctioning ones.
  • Trains and directs inmates assigned to the program.
  • Cleans, transports and moves equipment and wheelchairs as needed.
  • Promotes the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
  • Maintains accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical training and knowledge of general repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of how to satisfactorily supervise, coordinate and train inmates on the repair and maintenance of wheelchairs.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
